Practice with the putter
This is the first of a series of articles about simple games to improve your
golf game. This first one will help you improve your judgment on the stroke to
use on a variety of surfaces such as concrete, blacktop, wood floors, or putting
green. It can be practiced alone or in friendly competition.
The game can be played alone, or in competition. Mark a point on the surface
with a coin.
If you are playing it with a friend, both stand back-to-back as if in a
duel at the mark and step of a certain number of natural walking steps. Here is
where the putting contest begins. Each player has three balls to putt in turn.
The goal is to see who can make the ball stop closest to the point. For example,
- a ball within 1 club length = 5 points
- a ball within 2 club lengths = 3 points
- a ball within 3 club lengths = 1 point
Should another player strike the ball of the opponent, both balls are judged
and scored from the point where they come to rest.
