Teaching Youth Two-Man Basketball Plays
It is my opinion, they should be taught two-man plays. I think they advance faster offensively with the use of these plays. They are simple and can be understood by all ages. To youngsters, it gives some organization to the game. Pretty soon they begin to work for one of these plays, and take pride in setting a screen in the proper manner, driving off a screen, or taking a shot over a screen. Actually, there are 8 basic moves to be made using the simple pass and cut. These are....Read the entire article...

PLAY #2 - GIVE and GO
The second fundamental play, the old Give and Go, is as old as basketball, itself. It's my opinion that every player on your squad should thoroughly understand and effectively initiate this fundamental play. Diagrams illustrate how to use PLAY #2 in six different offensive sets. PLAY #1 – ONE-ON-ONE
Individual talent, notwithstanding, every one of your players must be a scoring threat while on the court. Therefore, the first thing you want to teach them is to square up and face the basket upon catching a pass. Every player must be a triple-threat. That is, he must be ready to shoot, dribble, or pass.

The Mechanics of Shooting a Basketball
The objective of the offense in basketball is accuracy of each attempted shot. This is a well known fact; however, only the better shooters practice correctly and work at improvement during the off season. Every player must know his range and know what is a good shot. Read the entire article.

Coaching basketball plays is really simple. I can't think why some find it so difficult to teach. I'm going to discuss the eight basic fundamental plays over the next few weeks; therefore, you better bookmark Guide to Coaching Sports, and visit often so you can tell when a new play has been added. Before getting into the eight basic fundamental plays, I would like to touch upon the two-step rule that should be taught to kids of every age. Click here is the full discussion on that subject.

How to Coach the First-Cutter and Second-Cutter Basketball Plays - Diagramed
The most common three man play is scissoring off the post. This play utilizes an inside screen and rear screen. It involves a high post player and both guards, or a medium post man and a guard and forward, on the ball side of the floor.

Two-Man Basketball Plays - Diagramed
Most successful basketball plays involve only two or three players in any particular play with the remaining players maneuvering or decoying opponents away from the intended point of attack. I am a firm believer that if a team can outnumber its opponents on the offensive end they will be successful at scoring a bucket most of th.... (Read entire article..

A Philosophy of a Basketball Team Offense
All coaches believe the objective of any basketball offense is to score as often as possible on each possession of the ball. That is one thing on which we all agree. Determining how that objective is accomplished, however, is another matter. There are as many different philosophies as coaches and success is not reserved exclus.... (Read entire article...)
